Marvel's The Avengers has finally been knocked out at the box office. Will Smith's third installment of the sci fi comedy franchise took the big prize over the weekend. Men in Black III finished first at the box office by raking in an estimated $55 million. From Boxofficemojo.com:

The Avengers may have dropped into second place this weekend, but the $36 million it pulled in is more than many movies make during their entire run. Also with that extra cash the movie moved over $500 million so far and puts it on pace to pass The Dark Knight as the Number 3 highest grossing film of all time. Men in Black III is Will Smith's third highest opening weekend ever, but it currently ranks as his 16th highest grossing movie of his career. Don't worry they have plenty of time to make up ground, although surpassing 1996's Independence Day may not be in the cards.
