Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara is spotted hanging out in her trailer on the set of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in London on Monday (Mar. 28). Rooney's co-star in the film, Daniel Craig, was also spotted on set. Check out the pics in the gallery.

Interestingly, there was already a Swedish adaptation of the book, directed by Niels Arden Oplev, made in 2009. This new American adaptation will be directed by David Fincher. There were some big names originally attached to the role of Mikael Blomkvist (George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Viggo Mortensen, and Brad Pitt), but the part ultimately went to Daniel Craig.

Rooney told W magazine in February that she had her doubts that she could play Lisbeth Salander in the new film:

"Before I read the book, I didn't think I could do it. I locked myself in a room for a week and read all three books, and decided I really wanted to be Lisbeth. But I thought I had no shot at it."

Rooney Mara looks nothing like the swedish (and if you ever see the swedish film, it's incredible) character - and not like Lisbeth is described in the books. Rooney looks too waifish, staged, and commercial. Look at the version played by Noomi Rapace - who won many awards for her performance, and you'll see why Rooney is just setting herself up for a fall. Why are we remaking a movie that was made in 2009 anyway...can't we as American's read subtitles? The real version is graphic, and pulls no punches, this film will be a watered down "kiddie" version.

I totally agree with you. The Swedish adaptations are wonderful, dark films and I honestly can't see anyone but Noomi as Lisbeth Salander. Brilliant actress who captured the character beautifully.

Good luck Rooney, you're going to need it.

No guys, I don´t think so. This is not a remake, it´s just another film version based on the Stieg Larsson books. There is no "original movie" - there´s just a first film version, made in Sweden. Swedish filmmakers were just first , it doesn´t mean they are the best. The fact it´s already been filmed doesn´t mean you can´t make it again - if you have your own vision.

Honestly, the swedish movies are not that good, the first movie, directed by Oplev is the best of the three movies but it´s mostly because the movie is a detective story, there´s a mystery and it´s very attractive itself – it doesn´t focus on Lisbeth and Blomkvist much, you just guess something about her/his life but you still don´t know anything (unless you haven´t read the books, yeah) and basically in this story it´s not that important – all you focus on is the detective line of the story – this line is the most important and sadly, in some scenes it lacks a true dark atmosphere, real suspence it´s supposed to have, sometimes it was rather chaotic…Oplev is not a good director, he just kind of got lucky – he had a good story and he had good actors/actresses, just go read the interviews with Rapace, he actually didn´t know what to do with the Lisbeth character, had no concept, no vision,– she would give him advices about Lisbeth, because she really understood the character and knew/felt what it needed – if Oplev hadn´t had Rapace, he would have killed it

The other movies – directed by a different director, even less talented - are journalist/political/court drama and it takes a great talent to put it all together so that the audience can´t get lost in the story, you have to know how to keep their attention– when you watch these movies, you sort of get lost – too much information, too many characters – and in this genre it´s pretty hard to not mess it up

No doubt Rapace is very good but I don´t think she absolutely fits the character physically, she looks like a woman, but Lisbeth (as described in the books) is more a girl -like looking woman, very slim, very childlike and that´s why I think Rooney is a perfect choice. Fincher is a brilliant director, Rooney is talented, the film stars a lot of good actors and actresses, it´s going to be more rough, dark, realistic and in addition to that, it has a totally different end …it seems to be amazing! Don´t judge that before you haven´t seen it!I don´t know about you guys, but I can´t wait to see it!!!
