Peter Jackson

Hey all, here's some pics director Peter Jackson posted to his Facebook yesterday from the set of The Hobbit. He also posted a pretty technical explanation of why he's shooting The Hobbit at a higher than normal frame rate of 48 fps. Here's a snippet:

"We are indeed shooting at the higher frame rate. The key thing to understand is that this process requires both shooting and projecting at 48 fps, rather than the usual 24 fps (films have been shot at 24 frames per second since the late 1920's). So the result looks like normal speed, but the image has hugely enhanced clarity and smoothness. Looking at 24 frames every second may seem ok--and we've all seen thousands of films like this over the last 90 years--but there is often quite a lot of blur in each frame, during fast movements, and if the camera is moving around quickly, the image can judder or strobe.

"Warner Bros. have been very supportive, and allowed us to start shooting THE HOBBIT at 48 fps, despite there never having been a wide release feature film filmed at this higher frame rate. We are hopeful that there will be enough theaters capable of projecting 48 fps by the time The Hobbit comes out where we can seriously explore that possibility with Warner Bros. However, while it's predicted that there may be over 10,000 screens capable of projecting THE HOBBIT at 48 fps by our release date in Dec, 2012, we don’t yet know what the reality will be. It is a situation we will all be monitoring carefully. I see it as a way of future-proofing THE HOBBIT. Take it from me--if we do release in 48 fps, those are the cinemas you should watch the movie in. It will look terrific!"

Frankie Sandford

Frankie Sandford of the English girl group The Saturdays is spotted entering the Hair & Makeup trailer on the set of the group's new video in Los Angeles last Saturday (April 9). Red-haired beauty Una Healy was also seen.

Being that they're both gorgeous and from English girl groups, Frankie is often compared to former Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole. In fact, a source told Heat magazine last week that Frankie devised a 12-month plan to make herself over just like the rumored X Factor judge:

"Frankie has told [boyfriend Wayne Bridge] she's going to grow her hair over the summer and get a new look. The next challenge will be recording solo material. She has already been approached by some big-name producers, and there's some TV work in the pipeline."

Not true, says Frankie, she's happy being herself. She tweeted:

""hahah!!! appears im off to Marbella this summer, growing my hair, working on a solo album and tv presenting!!! ... The Saturdays keep me busy enough....And im more than happy being me!!! :) ... if there was still any doubt....its all rubbish! lol"

Baptiste Giabiconi and Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld and his muse Baptiste Giabiconi are spotted on the set of a commercial for the venerable French fashion house Chanel last week at the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco (April 6).

Giabiconi told Dansk magazine earlier this year why the famed German designer was so drawn to him:

"One day I went up to Karl and said: 'Why me? What is it you see in me? Why do you only work with me?' And he told me it's because he sees something in me that he doesn't see in other people, something in the way I carry myself. Karl said: 'I see both a man and a woman in you at the same time.'"

Ron Livingston

Ron Livingston is spotted on the set of his new film The Odd Life of Timothy Green in Albany, Georgia last week (April 7). M. Emmet Walsh was also seen on set, but no sign of Jennifer Garner (but she was caught on set last month).

Production supervisor Jeff Valeri told Albany's WALB what drew filmmakers to the area:

"Mostly we chose the area because of the amazing live oak trees and the amazing architecture. We're actually putting some of the locals in the movie as extras and maybe 15 of them brought their cars today and they're just doing drive-bys for us. Everybody's been incredibly welcoming and very nice and happy to have us here."

Sounds like the town's putting their best foot forward!

Kate Moss

Kate Moss is spotted on the set of a photoshoot for Mango in Paris on Friday (April 8). The shoot, done by American photographer Terry Richardson, took place at the Jardin du Petit Palais cafe. Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, and Olivia Palermo have all done shoots for the Spanish clothing company in the past.

Kate is really getting around. In February, she was seen in Rio de Janeiro doing a photoshoot with Mario Testino (pics here).

I wonder if Kate is a Twilight fan? Robert Pattinson told Elle last week that he had a crush on the English supermodel as a teen: "I was always obsessed with Kate Moss. On my bedroom wall I had a poster of Linda Blair and Kate Moss. I always liked Jane Fonda. Who else? Ellen Burstyn."

Danica McKellar

Actress Danica McKellar is spotted on the set of her new indie comedy Mancation at The Merion ballroom in Cinnaminson, New Jersey last week (April 7). Also spotted on set were *NSYNC-star-turned-actor Joey Fatone, Mike Starr, and Sarah Vandella. Check out all the pics in the gallery.

In the film, directed by Frank Vain, Danica plays the unrequited love interested of the main character, whose wife leaves him.

Danica told the Philadelphia Enquirer this morning that she loves being recognized as Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years, even almost 20 years after the show ended:

"That show and that character were so loved. I'm really grateful to have been a part of that. Not everybody is recognized for that. You can have a character that was goofy. Steve Urkel, I mean Jaleel White, he's changed his whole appearance. He's sick of people doing Steve Urkel imitations."

Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou and Pio Marmaï are spotted on the set of their new film La délicatesse in Paris, France last week (April 7). Belle!

Directed by French filmmaking brothers David Foenkinos and Stéphane Foenkinos, the romantic comedy follows a recently widowed French woman (Tautou) courted by a Swedish co-worker (François Damiens) who gradually reawakens to life and falls in love again. The film is based on the novel of the same name, which was actually written by David. What a talented guy!

Look for the film in the first half of 2012.
