Throwback Thursday is a weekly update that we do here on Caught on Set. Every Thursday we post pictures from the set of a movie you haven’t seen in a while, or possibly ever.

This week's Throwback takes us all the way back to 1962. To the Robert Mulligan directed movie based on the classic novel by Harper Lee. To Kill a Mockingbird stars Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch the lawyer in the depression-era south who defended a black man against an undeserved rape charge and his kids against racism. Earlier this year the AFI and the President celebrated the 50th anniversary of the film's release with a viewing at the White House. From wearemoviegeeks.com:

"The American Film Institute, in conjunction with USA Network and Universal Pictures, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at the White House on Thursday, April 5 and with the nation on Saturday, April 7. AFI was created in the White House Rose Garden in 1965, when President Lyndon B. Johnson set a national mandate to “bring together leading artists of the film industry, outstanding educators and young men and women who wish to pursue the art form as their life’s work.”

I didn't know anything about the creation of the American Film Institute, I guess you really do learn something new everyday. If you have never seen the movie you really should. The AFI named To Kill a Mockingbird as the 25th greatest American movie of all time.
