The Weekend Winner: "The Bourne Legacy"

The Weekend Winner is a weekly update here on Caught on Set. Every Monday we will post pictures from the set of the movie that wins the box office battle over the weekend.

After 4 weeks at the box office, The Dark Knight Rises has finally been knocked out of to top spot. This weekend The Bourne Legacy took over the top spot with $40 million over the weekend. TDKR actually fell to the number 3 spot as the Will Ferrall - Zach Galifiankis comedy The Campaign came in second with $27 million.

Even though The Dark Knight Rises been out for 4 weeks it's still pretty impressive for a movie to take the top spot. I thought The Bourne Legacy would have a great weekend, but I didn't know for sure if it would win the box office battle. The most surprising move for me was The Campaign coming in second. Any movie with Will Farrel and Zach Galifiankis must be pretty damn funny.

A Look Back: "The Bourne Legacy"

“A Look Back” is a series of posts we here at Caughtonset.com feature weekly. It’s as simple as the title makes it sound. Each Friday we will take “A Look Back” to the set of a newly released film. Look at pictures from the set today, then watch the movie tonight.

Today's new release that we are looking back at is the newest entry into The Bourne Universe. Jeremy Renner takes over for Matt Damon as the main character in The Bourne Legacy. Although he isn't playing the Jason Bourne character, but rather Aaron Cross who was a part of the same program as Bourne. Renner is joined by Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.

There has been some mixed reactions about this new release. Many fans of the Bourne Franchise are upset with director Tony Gilroy. The fans wanted another Bourne movie, but they wanted Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon to come back. Hopefully if this movie turns out as good as the others, everyone will want to come back and make another one. Maybe they'll even bring Bourne and Cross into the same movie?

Jeremy Renner filming "The Bourne Legacy"

Jeremy Renner is seen filming The Bourne Legacy in Pleasantville, New York on Wednesday (November 2). Renner will be playing a new character in the film, not the title character of Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon in the previous three films.

One person supporting Renner in the rolse is Damon. He said earlier this year:

"I was always fine with them doing another Bourne movie as long as it didn't preclude me and Paul [Greengrass] from doing another Bourne. From what I understand, it doesn't at all, so that's fine. I really want to do another one with Paul and I'm sure it'll happen some day, but for now they're doing this. I'm keeping hope.

"I'm a huge Jeremy Renner fan, I'm sure he'll be great."

Jeremy Renner is seen leaving his trailer on the set of The Bourne Legacy in New York last week (October 6). Renner is taking the reigns of the popular film series from Matt Damon. He's got some big shoes to fill!

Could we actually see Damon in another Bourne movie? The star revealed earlier this year that he was kind of annoyed that no one told him about the new movie:

"No one told me, literally nobody called me. People think I have inside information, but you can get a sense of where I am in the pecking order. I'd do it again with Paul [Greengrass]. Universal doesn't actually own the Bourne character – the estate does – so technically I could go to Warner Bros... and Universal could read about it online."

Rachel Weisz is spotted on the set of The Bourne Legacy in New York earlier this week (September 27). She is so beautiful.

Following The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy is the fourth film in the Bourne franchise. However, don't look for Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in the new film - Jeremy Renner will be headlining it instead.

Look for The Bourne Legacy to hit theaters on August 3, 2012.
