The Weekend Winner will be another new weekly update here on Caught on Set. Every Monday we will post pictures from the set of the movie that wins the box office battle over the weekend.

The Avengers lead all movies over the weekend for the 3rd straight week. Grossing over $55 million on 4,249 screens. The gross was down 46.6 % on 100 less screens, but was still scored more than double the 2nd place film Battleship. From boxofficemojo.com:

Looking back to the set of "The Avengers"

The latest blockbuster hit to come from the Marvel Universe was Paramount Pictures' The Avengers. The super hero flick has been tearing up the charts, bringing in a whopping $384 MILLION in it's opening weekend! Many reasons have played a part in the success of the film, however one might have been overlooked. Nutritionist Kimberly Snyder. She worked on set and was responsible for the nutrition of many of the actors. From Kimberly Snyder's website:

"To say it was a blast to work on the Avengers set would be a huge understatement! The actors are absolute sweethearts, which is saying a lot considering the incredibly heavy costumes they had to wear and extremely long days and shooting schedule, which included a lot of all-night shoots."

If her guidance and smoothies can help the actors look like they do, I'll take some. A lot of people went to see the movie because of the special effects, comic books or previous individual movies, but I bet a whole lot also went to see the hot actors in tight costumes. Samuel L. Jackson on "The Avengers" set

Not too long ago Samuel L. Jackson took a time out to pose for a picture with a fan on the set of The Avengers. Not only is he a great actor, but he also appears to be a pretty nice guy.

We have more pictures from the set in the gallery, be sure to take a look around and see what Director Joss Whedon has in store for you. With an estimated $220 million budget I'm sure the special effects will be out of this World and pretty constant. Fresh off of it's Hollywood premier a few days ago, the official US release date is set for May 4. But for many countries around the World, The Avengers will be released almost a week earlier. So yeah, we are a little jealous of you right now.

Chris Evans getting goofy on set

Chris Evans is spotted getting a little goofy on the set of The Avengers in New York over the weekend (September 3). I guess working 15-hour-days can turn someone a little stir crazy.

Captain America director Joe Johnson told GQ earlier this year that Chris absolutely nailed the role of the wholesome superhero - a role that's much tougher than people realize:

"That's the kind of thing that can get really melodramatic and overearnest if you're not careful. But Chris handled it perfectly, shading it just right, translating the comic character into flesh and blood."

Veteran Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård is seen on the set of The Avengers in New York last Friday (September 2). You may recognize Stellan from films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Good Will Hunting, and Angels & Demons.

Despite his son Alexander Skarsgård achieving huge fame on True Blood, Stellan's not taking credit. He told E!:

"I don't give him any advice at all, because for my kids, from the age of 16 their lives are their responsibility. If he had the feeling that it was thanks to me that he had any of his success, it would just be half a success. He owes everything to himself."

Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo on the set of "The Avengers"

Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo are seen filming The Avengers in New York over the weekend (September 3). Check out the custom "Stark 33" license plate on Tony Stark's car. Love it!

You may have heard that Daryl Hannah was arrested last week in front of the White House during a protest against the proposed 1,700 mile long Keystone oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. Ruffalo has come to her defense. In a video on the Tar Sands Action's website, he says:

"Up north where the tar sands are located, native people's homelands have already been wrecked. All that new oil will worsen global warming. It's time for us to get off fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are over."

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are spotted on the set of The Avengers at Bethesda Fountain in New York last Friday (September 2). Chris plays Captain America in the film and of course Robert plays Mr. Iron Man himself, Tony Stark.

Speaking of Hiddleston, he told MTV last week that the fight scenes in the film are going to be "breathtaking":

"It's so fun and so hard. I have had so many fights in this but it's going to be breathtaking. The action in this film is going to be breathtaking. The stunt team is the greatest in the world, everyone's really dialed in. That's part of the reason you go to see Avengers. You go to see what happens when all these superheroes go toe-to-toe. When half the people in the film can fly, you know it's going to be incredible. The challenge is to make it dynamic and quick and athletic, but also I'm wearing 40 pounds of leather and metal."
