A Look Back: "Rock of Ages"

“A Look Back” is a series of posts we here at Caughtonset.com feature weekly. It’s as simple as the title makes it sound. Each Friday we will take “A Look Back” to the set of a newly released film. Look at pictures from the set today, then watch the movie tonight.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Tom Cruise and even Katy Perry were caught on set of Rock of Ages while it was being filmed last Summer. The '80s themed musical, which was directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray) and also stars Alec Baldwin and Bryan Cranston hits theaters this weekend. Does this flashback in time have enough to take the number one spot at the box office this weekend? Not according to Ray Subers from boxofficemojo.com:

"The box office gets a heavy dose of 80s nostalgia this weekend thanks to musical Rock of Ages, which utilizes 80s rock tunes for all of its songs, and R-rated comedy That's My Boy, which finds Adam Sandler sporting an 80s mullet. This isn't the first time that a June weekend has harkened back to that decade: in 2010, The Karate Kid remake and The A-Team adaptation opened to a combined $81 million. There's virtually no chance that Rock of Ages and That's My Boy deliver a similar result, and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted will likely hold on to first place."

Madagascar 3 was the surprises winner last weekend, knocking off Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and it doesn't seem to have slowed too much over its first week in theaters. Subers is projecting Rock of Ages to finish in second this weekend at $28.6 million, behind only Madagascar 3 which he projects to drop 44% to $33.8 million. There is lots to choose from this weekend, animated family movie, R-rated comedy or 1980's musical. I don't think I can choose between all these great offerings, I might just have to see more than one.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is seen walking around the set of Rock of Ages in Miami earlier this week (August 9). She's looking as good as ever!

Rock of Ages is the second film Catherine has been seen on the set of this year. Back in April, she filmed Playing the Field in Shreveport, Louisiana. Check out all the pics on the Catherine Zeta-Jones page.

It was reported earlier this week that Catherine has quit smoking. After seeing husband Michael Douglas battle with throat cancer last year, she gave up the unhealthy habit. Good for you Catherine!

Diego Boneta and Malin Akerman are spotted on the set of Rock of Ages in Fort Lauderdale last Friday (June 17). An amazing picture of Tom Cruise on set also just the 'net - don't miss it!

The rock musical movie also stars Alec Baldwin. Earlier today, he tweeted how much fun he's having on set: "Chico Escuela says, 'Fort Lauderdale has been berry, berry good to me.' "

FYI, Chico Escuela was the name of the Dominican baseball player character played by Garrett Morris, one of the original stars of Saturday Night Live. Escuela spoke very little English and responded to almost every question with the phrase, "Baseball... been berra berra good... to me."

First pic of Tom Cruise on the set of "Rock of Ages"!

Tom Cruise is spotted on the set of his new film Rock of Ages over the weekend in Miami, Florida. Whoa, who knew he would make such a hot rocker?

The picture was posted by Tom's people to his official blog with the description: "LIVE TO ROCK! Your FIRST glance at Tom rocking out as Stacee Jaxx on the Rock of Ages movie set -TeamTC"

According to Tom's co-star on the film Julianne Hough, if he ever gets tired of this acting thing, he definitely could make it as a singer. She told MTV:

"I'm not kidding, the guy can sing. The guy can dance, the guy obviously can act. I mean, he can do it all, and he does it all very well. Yeah, oh yeah, it's ridiculous. There are no words to describe how amazing Tom is. I mean, he's so in it."

A glammed-out Julianne Hough is spotted on the set of Rock of Ages in Miami last Thursday (June 9). Russell Brand was also spotted on set - check out those pics here.

Of course Julianne's been dating Ryan Seacrest for the past year or so. Seacrest's E! News co-host Giuliana Rancic dished to OK! that the two are, like, the most perfect couple ever and she's hoping he pops the question to her:

"Julianne Hough's adorable and he's adorable I think they make such a cute couple. So you know they're like the perfect couple. They're like Ken and Barbie. Adorable.

"I'd like him to [propose]. Because I think he would – I means she's just a doll; they would have like the most gorgeous kids ever. So yeah I think their adorable but we'll see. Well she's very busy now, too. So it's not just he's busy they're both busy so we'll see what happens.""

Ever since Russell married Katy Perry last year, there's been talk that their marriage is on the rocks. Don't believe the hype - the two couldn't be more in love. An insider told Now magazine:

"The first new rule is to have date nights each week whenever they're in the US. So when Katy got back to their LA home last month, Russ took her to the cinema to see The Hangover Part II. They sat in the back row and kissed like teenagers - it was like one long foreplay session!"
