Russell Crowe is spotted for the first time on the set of the Superman film Man of Steel in Vancouver on Wednesday (October 5). The actor plays Superman's (Henry Cavill) biological father, Jor-El from Krypton.

Did You Know? Jor-El in the original Superman film of 1978 was played by Marlon Brando. Russell's got some big shoes to fill!
If you're looking forward to Man of Steel, you're going to have to wait a while - the release date is almost two years away (June 2013).
Michael Shannon
Michael Shannon is spotted on the set of Man of Steel last week. These are the first pics of Shannon in his General Zod suit. Cool!

In an interview with Movie Fanatic earlier this month, Shannon revealed that being part of such a big film is a little overwhelming:
"It's a big movie. I've just started working on it, so I'm not quite into the swing of it yet. I'm trying to wrap my head around it. There are a lot of different elements that I've never experienced - like the CGI. You always hear about actors when they run into that for the first time are a little thrown by it. I'm looking to getting a little more comfortable and getting into a rhythm and then I think I'll start having some real fun with it."

Cavill - who is from the Channel Islands off of France - recently told Total Film how he trained his voice to sound like the American-accented Superman:
"Doing an American accent is about exercising the muscles in your throat and your mouth. Sometimes it can sound great for a long period of time, sometimes your inflection is wrong. It all depends. As long as you've got a professional watching over you saying, 'You did this wrong, you did that wrong..' it can be made to seem effortless. But you still get days when it just seems to stick in your mouth."
Antje Traue
Antje Traue is spotted on the set of Man of Steel in Plano, Illinois last week (August 26). The German actress plays Faora in the film.

There's been some questions as to what version of Faora Snyder will use in the film. According to Variety, it's likely that Traue "will be playing the version of Faora that debuted in Action Comics #779 as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod's plan."

In a recent interview with TotalFilm.com, Cavill said he is bulking up to play the iconic superhero:
"I'm on 5000 calories a day. You've got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs. You've gotta keep your hunger levels going. I'm training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman."

Henry Cavill (aka Superman) and German actress Antje Traue (aka Faora) are spotted filming Man of Steel in Plano, Illinois earlier this week (August 23). This is the first time Cavill has been spotted on set in his Superman costume. Cool!

According to the Courier News, producers are locking down the set so no spoilers get out (unlike The Dark Knight Rises which is currently filming in Pittsburgh):
"A security cordon of chain link fence was thrown up around about a two-block area of Main Street, in the area where the Smallville Sears and Smallville Land Surveyors are, as well as the Smallville Hotel. The fence had black Visqueen around it, so not only could onlookers and press not get inside the area, they could not see inside it, either."
