Ewan McGregor is seen on the set of Jack the Giant Killer last week in England (April 13). Also spotted on set was Ewan's co-star in the film Eddie Marsan.
Directed by Bryan Singer, the film is a modern day fairytale in which "the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess."
Singer told Total Film that he hopes to bring something new to the fairy tale genre with his new film:
"It's a very traditional fairytale, probably the most traditional thing I've ever done. But it'll also be a fun twist on the notion of how these tales are told.
"Fairytales are often borne of socio-political commentary and translated into stories for children. But what if they were based on something that really happened? What if we look back at the story that inspired the story that you read to your kids? That’s kind of what this movie's about."

Ewan McGregor and Gina Carano
Ewan McGregor is seen getting beat up by Gina Carano on the set of their new action thriller Haywire yesterday in Malibu (Mar. 10). Michael Douglass and Channing Tatum also star in the film about a black ops solider seeking revenge after being set up on a mission. If you don't follow MMA, you may not recognize Carano. She's actually one of the top female fighters in the world.
Expect Haywire to be one of director Steven Soderbergh's last films. He recently revealed to Studio 360 that he's retiring:
"When you reach the point where you're like if I have to get into a van to do anther scout I'm just going to shoot myself, it's time to let somebody else who's still excited about getting in the van, get in the van.
"And so it's just time. For the last three years, I've been turning down everything that comes my way, so you're not going to have Steven Soderbergh to kick around anymore."

Ewan McGregor is seen yesterday on the set of The Impossible in Khao Lak, Thailand (Feb. 15). In what's sure to be an emotional movie, The Impossible tells the true story of a family trapped in the devastation of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Naomi Watts also stars.
The Impossible shut down production last December after one of the extras on the film was caught in McGregor's trailer writing poetic death odes to the star. One of the lines read: "Twisting the knife as I look into your eyes."
A member of the local production crew said at the time: "We could not call Thai police because the man had only written poetry, and they would be unlikely to understand. Instead there was no confrontation.
"The extra was told that he would not be needed for a week and he would be called when it was time. He was not called. He looked a little wide-eyed and preoccupied. The producers decided that he was a serious risk."
