The final episode of "Eureka" filming in British Columbia

Colin Ferguson and Salli Richardson are spotted filming the series finale of their show Eureka last week in Chilliwack, British Columbia (August 24). So sad! I'm gonna miss this show.

Eureka executive producer Amy Berg said that SyFy didn't want to cancel the show, but they were pretty much forced to:

"We are the network's golden child in every way, except profit margins. Fact is, #Eureka is an expensive show to make. And we could not maintain the quality of our show with the cuts it would take to make us profitable for Syfy's new parent company [Comcast]. Our creative execs at Syfy fought hard to keep us. Trust me, they LOVE us. We just couldn't make the numbers work."

Niall Matter, Salli Richardson, Matt Hastings, and Neil Grayston are spotted on the set of their SyFy series Eureka last week in Vancouver (August 11). Grayston tweeted the pic and said: "Hangin' at GD with @niallmatter, @sallirichardson, @mattdirector, and a sandwich."

Sad news for Eureka fans as it was announced earlier this month that the show is getting canceled (even though it was initially renewed). Series-regular Erica Cerra told Entertainment Weekly it was a sad day on set when the news was announced:

"The final blow. Yeah, that was just sad. There's no other word to use. It was a sad moment. We weren't prepared to say goodbye. Hopefully the final episode will do the show justice."

Niall Matter, Felicia Day, Tembi Locke, and Neil Grayston are spotted on the set of Eureka last week in Vancouver (July 28). Neil tweeted the pic and said: "On set with the crazy gang! @niallmatter, @feliciaday, Tembe Locke and a goblin eating a cheeto from a cup!"

As you Eureka fans know, the show had a special holiday-themed episode last year. Producers are doing the same thing again this year with one big difference - it's going animated! Here's the announcement via SyFy:

"In the episode Do You See What I See, it's Christmas again in Eureka, and Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson) and Allison Blake (Salli Richardson) are secretly planning the perfect holiday surprise for their kids. But something mysterious interferes with the super-photon generator designed to create a faux winter wonderland on Main Street, sending a kaleidoscopic wave of color crashing over Eureka, and leaving the entire town and its inhabitants animated. Adapting to the rules of their animated world, our cartoon heroes encounter talking creatures, anthropomorphized machines, and snowy foes as they race to find a solution before Christmas morning...or face potentially being a cartoon forever."

Salli Richardson on the set of "Eureka"

Salli Richardson is spotted on the set of the SyFy series Eureka in Chilliwack, British Columbia last week (July 25). Richardson plays Department of Defense agent Allison Blake in the series.

Also spotted on set was Colin Ferguson and Chris Gauthier - check out the pics in the gallery.

Speaking of Colin, he said last month at Comic-Con that he thinks Eureka is just hitting its high note as a series:

"I think the show is as good as it's ever been. That had to do with sort of a big shift down here in the writers room and, sort of finally finding our footing and getting our way back after the writer's strike and all of the big Hollywood problems that happened. It made it really difficult even to know if you were going to have a job.

"So, we have a really solid group of writers and a really sort of core group of people that hasn't changed, so that's why it sort of feels really energized and is really firing on all cylinders."

Colin Ferguson on the set of "Eureka"

Colin Ferguson is seen on the set of the SyFy series Eureka in North Vancouver last week (July 20). No stuntman need for Colin, thank you very much. The hunky actor was seen doing his own stunts.

Niall Matter was also spotted on set - check out all the pics in the gallery.

Colin revealed at Comic-Con over the weekend in San Diego what viewers can expect in the new season of Eureka:

"We pick up in Season 4.5, right where we left off. The big mission of the year is Eureka is going to space. The trip to the moon is called the Astreus Project and things might not go as well as we hope. There are tons of guest stars this year, like Wallace Shawn, Dave Foley, Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton. If we suck, we've got tons of talent to carry the load."
