After being the surprise winner of last weekend's box office battle, Madagascar 3 was able to do it again. This time it beat out That's My Boy, Adam Sandler's latest offering, as well as the 80's themed rock musical Rock of Ages. From boxofficemojo.com:

I'm not sure how many people imagined the third of the Madagacar trilogy would have done so well against the competition in it's first two weeks in theaters. Whoever did has made themselves quite a bit of money. So far it's on pace to beat the grosses of the second movie in the franchise, with $120 million compared to $116 million in it's first two weekends. We'll have to wait and see just how long the "Afro Circus" can hold off the competition and keep raking in the dough.

In a surprising upset, Madagascar 3 took the top spot at the box office this weekend. Dreamworks latest animated feature fought off last week's number 1, Snow White and the Huntsman and the presumed favorite Prometheus, to bring in over $60 million. From Boxofficemojo.com:

Finding out that Prometheus lost out on being number one completely ruined my weekend. Not that I was rooting for it to win, I just thought it was going to win so I had this post completely finished and was just waiting for the numbers. Thanks to Madagascar 3 I had to actually do work and find some pictures from the making of it, which wasn't easy. All kidding aside I didn't think Madagascar would beat Snow White this week, I guess that shows what I know about the movie business.
