“A Look Back” is a series of posts we here at Caughtonset.com feature weekly. It’s as simple as the title makes it sound. Each Friday we will take “A Look Back” to the set of a newly released film. Look at pictures from the set today, then watch the movie tonight.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Tom Cruise and even Katy Perry  were caught on set of Rock of Ages while it was being filmed last Summer. The '80s themed musical, which was directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray) and also stars Alec Baldwin and Bryan Cranston hits theaters this weekend. Does this flashback in time have enough to take the number one spot at the box office this weekend? Not according to Ray Subers from boxofficemojo.com:

"The box office gets a heavy dose of 80s nostalgia this weekend thanks to musical Rock of Ages, which utilizes 80s rock tunes for all of its songs, and R-rated comedy That's My Boy, which finds Adam Sandler sporting an 80s mullet. This isn't the first time that a June weekend has harkened back to that decade: in 2010, The Karate Kid remake and The A-Team adaptation opened to a combined $81 million. There's virtually no chance that Rock of Ages and That's My Boy deliver a similar result, and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted will likely hold on to first place."

Madagascar 3 was the surprises winner last weekend, knocking off Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and it doesn't seem to have slowed too much over its first week in theaters. Subers is projecting Rock of Ages to finish in second this weekend at $28.6 million, behind only Madagascar 3 which he projects to drop 44% to $33.8 million. There is lots to choose from this weekend, animated family movie, R-rated comedy or 1980's musical. I don't think I can choose between all these great offerings, I might just have to see more than one.

Diego Boneta and Malin Akerman

Diego Boneta and Malin Akerman are spotted on the set of Rock of Ages in Fort Lauderdale last Friday (June 17). An amazing picture of Tom Cruise on set also just the 'net - don't miss it!

The rock musical movie also stars Alec Baldwin. Earlier today, he tweeted how much fun he's having on set: "Chico Escuela says, 'Fort Lauderdale has been berry, berry good to me.' "

FYI, Chico Escuela was the name of the Dominican baseball player character played by Garrett Morris, one of the original stars of Saturday Night Live. Escuela spoke very little English and responded to almost every question with the phrase, "Baseball... been berra berra good... to me."

Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough is spotted filming a love montage scene with Diego Boneta for their new film Rock of Ages in Hollywood, Florida on Tuesday (May 24). The two were also spotted filming scenes on Monday - check out those pics here and here.

Julianne plays Sherrie in the film, a small-town Kansas girl who ventures out to Hollywood with the dream of becoming a star. She told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year how excited she was to be in such a big-time film (Tom Cruise plays her love interest):

"Words can't even express how thrilled I am to be a part of this film. Between [director Adam Shankman] and the cast and the material, it's just a dream come true. I'm so grateful to Adam and the studio and everyone that believed enough in me to make this amazing opportunity possible. I can't wait to start work!"

Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough

Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough are spotted filming Rock of Ages in Miami on Monday (May 23). In the scene, the two were seen laughing it up while rollerblading down the boardwalk. The film is set in the '80s, hence the retro gear.

Sounds like Julianne was super-excited to be filming with Diego and director Adam Shankman. On Monday, she tweeted: ""Rise and Shine! It's the first day of shooting #rockofagesmovie @Adammshankman & @Diegoboneta are you ready to get your love montage on? "

After the day's shoot, she wrote: "Today was so much fuuuuuuuuuuuun! I love you #rockofagesmovie ... Done with our first day of shooting @adammshankman @juliannehough... Great way to start this awesome adventure!!!"
