A Look Back: "Magic Mike"

“A Look Back” is a series of posts we here at Caughtonset.com feature weekly. It’s as simple as the title makes it sound. Each Friday we will take “A Look Back” to the set of a newly released film. Look at pictures from the set today, then watch the movie tonight.

Magic Mike just might be one of the most anticipated movies of all time. At least of this year. By women. I don't think it's just me who can't contain myself waiting to see Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew Bomer and Channing Tatum play strippers. Magic Mike will be competing with several new releases, as well as Disney's Brave, for the number one slot at the box office.

Take it all off and you'll have every woman across the country rushing to see your movie. Sorry I got a little excited there. Oh I guess there are some actresses in the movie also. Some people named Riley Keough and Olivia Munn to name a few. I don't know why they are in there, just show us ladies the goods and we will all watch this movie...twice. Channing Tatum is seen on the set of his quasi-autobiographical film Magic Mike in Los Angeles last week (September 30). The star was seen rocking a set of super hip dog tags.

Also starring in Magic Mike is True Blood star Joe Manganiello. He told Access Hollywood earlier this week that he's having a blast on set as stripper "Big Dick Richie":

"[It's] so much fun. I've had several requests to save the firemen costume since I started shooting. So if that one disappears at the end..."

Channing Tatum is spotted on the set of his new film Magic Mike in Los Angeles last week (September 29). The star was holding an umbrella to keep the sun out of his face on a particularly hot day.

Tatum told Collider earlier this year if he has any sort of strategy for his career:

"There's not really a strategy but I do want to take some time and try to reinvent and get better and maybe get behind the camera a little more. I do want to try to direct at some point, start failing really early (laughs), start shooting videos and then commercials and then hopefully do some narrative."

Channing Tatum is spotted on the set of his quasi-autobiographical film Magic Mike in Los Angeles last Friday (September 23). Someone's been hitting the gym!

According to the Los Angeles Times, director Steven Soderbergh is expected to film the movie in the city through the next month or so:

"The five-week shoot, which will mostly film in L.A. with some on-location filming to take place in Florida, has since shot scenes in Hollywood and Studio City and at Dockweiler Beach, according to FilmL.A. Inc., the nonprofit that handles film permits."

Olivia Munn on the set of "Magic Mike"

Olivia Munn is spotted on the set of Magic Mike last Wednesday in Marina Del Rey, California (September 21). She has such a beautiful smile!

After Olivia was hired as a correspondent on The Daily Show earlier this year, producers were criticized for hiring "just a pretty face." As Olivia explains to CNN, that's really not being fair to her:

"They said, 'Oh, she's the Maxim cover girl,' which I get. But I'm just like, I'm sorry - you can put yourself in a box, I just refuse to let you put me in one, too. They're trying to reduce it to, 'You can't be on the cover of Maxim and you can't be pretty and also be smart and funny. You're only getting by on your looks.'"

Director Steven Soderbergh told MTV last week that things may get a little "spicy" in the film:

"You're dealing with a lot of people in a very strange business taking what they do very, very seriously, and these are guys in thongs and bow ties. I think it's going to be fun."

Channing Tatum is a "Magic Mike" man

Channing Tatum is spotted on the set of his new film Magic Mike in Los Angeles on Tuesday (September 20). Wonder if he's wearing a hoody because he has a crazy haircut or something?

The movie, directed by Steven Soderbergh, is actually a loose representation of Tatum's life growing up, particularly his time as a teen stripper in Tampa, Florida. Tatum said last month that he's looking forward to working with the director:

"This was a wild and pivotal time in my life and I couldn't be more thrilled to go down the rabbit hole with Steven."
