The Weekend Winner: "The Amazing Spider-Man"

The Weekend Winner is a weekly update here on Caught on Set. Every Monday we will post pictures from the set of the movie that wins the box office battle over the weekend.

There were no surprises at the box office this weekend as The Amazing Spider-Man continued it's strong start over the weekend by bringing in $65 million. The comic book based film starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone pushed it's total gross to $140 million. The one movie that surprised me over the weekend was Savages, which grossed just over $16 million to come in 4th. I thought that movie, with the cast that it has, would fare much better than a $6,000 average per screen. From Boxofficemojo.com:

Ted and Brave are still holding on strong in it's second and third week, respectively, in release. Magic Mike having another strong weekend just goes to show that all you ladies out there love strippers also. The movie about male "dancers" has grossed over $70 million in two weeks, which is 10 times more than the estimated budget of $7 million. Sex sells, no matter who you are selling too.

A Look Back: "The Amazing Spider-Man"

“A Look Back” is a series of posts we here at Caughtonset.com feature weekly. It’s as simple as the title makes it sound. Each Friday we will take “A Look Back” to the set of a newly released film. Look at pictures from the set today, then watch the movie tonight.

Technically The Amazing Spider-Man has been in theaters most of the week, but this is the movies first weekend so it still counts as being a new release. Besides I don't think any other movie will come close to the amount of money this latest super hero flick will bring in.

Spider-Man earned $35 million on a Tuesday. If that wasn't impressive enough it then brought in $23 million the next day. The folks over at Boxofficemojo.com say that Spidey is on track for a 6-day total of $140 million. That is pretty damn good for a movie that is the 4th in the franchise. Andrew Garfield is spotted on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in New York last week (November 17). Hooded hottie!

Confirming rumors that they're dating, Andrew and his Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone were seen holding hands over the weekend in the East Village of New York. Stone is now Garfield's love interest on the big screen and in real life. What a lucky gal!

Look for The Amazing Spider-Man in theaters next summer.

Andrew Garfield filming in Queens

Andrew Garfield is spotted on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in the New York borough of Queens last Friday (May 13). As you can tell, the Spidey star was filming near the intersection of 61st and Roosevelt in Woodside, Queens.

Richard Norton, who has a small role in The Amazing Spider-Man, spoke with Moviehole earlier this week. The veteran Australian actor/stuntman revealed that the film has a much larger budget than the rumored $80 million:

"Unfortunately I can’t say much right now because I’m not allowed to. However I can say it was mostly stunt work. I doubt you’ll even recognise me. I play a SWAT guy but it’s a small part. I was on-set for four weeks and the experience was just phenomenal… it’s a $220 million budget movie! Vic Armstrong was the second unit director and it was great working with him. Andy Armstrong, his brother, was the stunt coordinator and an old friend. Andy’s the one who brought me onboard so for all those reasons and more it was a lot of fun!"

"The Amazing Spider-Man" lands in the Upper West Side

Andrew Garfield is spotted on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in Manhattan's Upper West Side earlier this week (May 9). Total cutie!

Legendary stuntman Vic Armstrong sat down with Movieline this week to talk about his new memoir and his experience directing parts of the new Spider-Man film. Armstrong revealed that the new film will rely less on CGI for stunts and more on actual stunts performed by Garfield:

"Andrew Garfield is a very good actor — he is very much in the Daniel Day-Lewis method of getting totally into it, so we've integrated him into as much of the flying as we could, and as much of the action, the poses and the body movement. So you’ve got all of these really organic movements. When you see somebody flying for real, it's far different than a CG one. You see the G-force come on as they change directions, and their arms straighten out, and then their legs flex, and then they pick up and swing again. It's got this whole rhythm to it."

Rhys Ifans and Andrew Garfield filming "The Amazing Spider-Man"

Rhys Ifans and Andrew Garfield are spotted filming a scene for The Amazing Spider-Man in Brooklyn on Saturday (May 7). The pics are the first clear look at Ifans' character Dr. Curt Conners - aka "The Lizard." The green thing he's wearing around his hand is to make it easier to add a special effect (lizard arm?) in post-production.

Director Marc Webb was also caught on set. You can see the pics of him in the gallery below. Webb told MTV News last year what originally attracted him to the new Spider-Man project:

"I think that there's something about Peter Parker that's just... He's a legend. That mythology is appealing to me and it has been for a long time. It's just a dream come true. [Sam Raimi] did something fantastic, but I do think the mythology of Spider-Man is wide and vast, and there's more opportunity to explore that cinematically. Sam is not only a great guy but a fantastic director and it's a humbling prospect, but I'm looking forward to it."

Peter Parker (aka Andrew Garfield) is seen hanging around on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday (May 7).

Andrew and Emma Stone did a lot of filming last week in New York. Check out Caught on Set's The Amazing Spider-Man page for all the latest pics.

A big congrats are in order for Andrew for scoring two MTV Movie Award nominations. The new Spider-Man is nominated individually for "Breakout Star" and, with his The Social Network co-star Justin Timberlake, "Best Line from a Movie" ("…A million dollars isn't cool You know what's cool?" "A billion dollars. And that shut everybody up.").
