Criminal Minds Returns For Season 8

The cast of Criminal Minds headed back to the studio to begin filming season 8 of the hit CBS drama. The cast was photographed by Vernon Cheek, who posted them to his twitter account. He tweeted with the following with the headline picture:

"The ladies for season 8 of Criminal Minds including newest cast member Jeanne Tripplehorn who will play Alex Blake."

Pictured in this gallery is Jeanne Tripplehorn, A.J. Cook, Kristen Vagsness, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler and Joe Mantegna. Mantegna also tweeted a picture that showed the cast and crew celebrating the birthday of Kreisten Vagsness during the table read. It's so much cooler when you find out that the cast of your favorite shows actually get a long with and like each other.

A.J. Cook and Shemar Moore: Put your dukes up!

A.J. Cook and Shemar Moore are spotted on the set of Criminal Minds last week in Los Angeles. The two are filming a boxing-themed episode called The Bittersweet Science, hence A.J. with her dukes up.

A.J. isn't just playing around by having her fists up - she really wants to get beat up this season! She told TV Guide:

"I have volunteered to get beat up! I want to get into a really bad fight this year. I'm like, 'Everyone else has gotten the crap beaten out of them! It's JJ's turn!'"

Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook: Ice cream break!

Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook are spotted enjoying a little ice cream break on the set of Criminal Minds in Los Angeles last Friday (July 15). A.J. tweeted the pic and wrote: "BACON ICE CREAM!!!" Yum!

A.J. also tweeted a fun pic of her, Kirsten Vangsness, and Paget Brewster, and said: "I have no idea what we are doing but I love my ladies @Vangsness @pagetpaget." Check it out in the gallery.

Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer revealed earlier this month that the relationship between JJ (Cook) and Hotch (Thomas Gibson) will be "explored" in the upcoming seventh season:

"There is a relationship there... that we think is worth exploring. It's nothing romantic, but there's definitely a bond that these two have... that doesn't come along very often."

Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook are caught on set filming Criminal Minds in Los Angeles last Friday (July 8). If FBI agents are that cute, I may have to become a criminal!

It was definitely a late night for the Criminal Minds cast. Thomas Gibson - who plays Hotch on the show - tweeted a pic of a smiling Shemar and said: "3a and still flossy!"

Don't miss this month's issue of Maximum Fitness, which features Shemar on the cover. In the interview, the actor reveals how he cheated death during a bike ride in Hollywood a few years ago:

"It was the scariest moment of my life. On that day, I did everything right. What went wrong was that I got hit by a 70-year-old in an old-school Cadillac going 40 miles per hour! I didn't see him or hear him coming—not a thing. I felt him coming. I don't remember spinning or flipping off my bike—nothing. I got lucky—and then some."

Shemar Moore on the set of "Criminal Minds"

Shemar Moore is seen on the set of Criminal Minds in Los Angeles on Wednesday (July 6). That's Criminal Minds producer/showrunner Erica Messer leaning into the car.

Production on Season 7 of the FBI drama officially kicked off this week. Check out some pics in the gallery of stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness, and A.J. Cook at a table reading.

While the show certainly deals with some pretty heavy topics, Mantegna told the Kansas City Star last week that he and his co-stars try to keep the atmosphere light on set:

"What people don't tend to understand is the experience of working on stuff doesn't necessarily parallel to what the material's about. When I'm making Criminal Minds, as grim as the material is, the atmosphere on the set is not like that at all. You are talking a family-like atmosphere where we all like each other and have a good time. It's only those moments when you are doing the material that it gets heavy and serious. I am spending far more time on a set being Joe than I am being David Rossi."
